Mom’s Irish Poetry Anthology

A thirty-one page sourcebook for Mom’s Mount Mary senior thesis, “Irish Poetry From 1836 to 1936” (1937). None of the poems are annotated, and the analysis, if there was one, doesn’t appear to be extant.

Some of the poems have been typed out, some cut from books or periodicals.

She selected some good poets–Edna St. Vincent Millay, Sara Teasdale, Amy Lowell–and some deservedly forgotten ones. That she chose so many women poets is unusual given how male-centered the canonical writers she would have studied were at the time.

Women poets historically have received greater recognition than have women novelists, but her selection is nonetheless surprising and perhaps a little informative.
